About Russ Barragan
Russ Barragan has been studying and creating sculpture for most of his life. When he was just 8 years old his mother, a painter, gave him his first bag of clay and he began making his first clay models.
Later in High School ceramics class he learned pottery, but was always more fascinated with sculpture. For his final two years of highschool and continuing into college, his main passion was sculpting in clay.
He began carving in stone in 1989. He began learning from other carvers, and increased his skill through seminars, videos, books, and a lot of practice.
Over the years, he has worked in various professions to provide his primary income, but always continued with his sculpture. For 10 years, starting 1997, while living in Los Angeles he produced models, miniatures and set pieces for the entertainment industry. He worked in various materials including clay, foam and wood along with making molds using plaster and rubber. Many of these pieces were featured in TV shows, movies, commercials, and magazine ads.
In 2009 he moved to Kentucky where he bought a home and studio where he could pursue his art which he continues to do today. Please contact Russ directly if you have any questions or are interested in a particular piece.
